Avatar: Fire and Ash has just hit the $1 billion mark at the global box office, with $777 million coming in from outside the US and $306 million from the domestic market after just 18 days of being on the big screen. Disney/20th Century Studios has finally confirmed the news and all the industry analysts are talking about it.
Reaching the billion-dollar mark makes Avatar: Fire and Ash the third film in the franchise to achieve this impressive feat, putting it right up there among the most esteemed franchises in movie history and one of a tiny handful that have had three films each earn over a billion. It’s also the third 2025 Disney release to break that barrier, joining Zootopia 2 and Lilo & Stitch. Not to mention making James Cameron the first director ever to have four films in a row that smash the billion-dollar mark, following in the footsteps of Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: Fire and Ash.
So far, Avatar: Fire and Ash has raked in a whopping $1.083 billion worldwide – with $306 million of that coming from the US and a further $777.1 million from overseas – its top markets being China ($138 million), France ($81 million), Germany ($64 million) and South Korea ($44 million), while the Italian box office has been surprisingly slow, with over $20 million, although that’s in part down to Checco Zalone’s Buen Camino smashing through the $50 million mark while Avatar: Fire and Ash was still getting out of the gates.
But this film is showing no signs of slowing down, with an estimated end-of-run total of $1.8 billion – and it’s not out of the question that it might even make it to $2 billion – after all, it only took 18 days to get to the billion mark, roughly the same speed as Avatar: The Way of the Water (15 days) and Avatar (19 days), so who knows how high this film will actually go. With no major releases on the horizon for the next few weeks, it’s going to be a clear path to the finish line for Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Of course, we shouldn’t forget that the Avatar trilogy has already set a new record – after all, it’s the most successful trilogy in movie history now, having raked in a staggering 6.35 billion dollars at the box office (and we’re still counting).
